CONCERT BANDS

Concert (military) and brass bands have been part of the musical fabric of Saskatchewan, and particularly Moose Jaw, since the turn of the century. By 1908 Moose Jaw had a very well established Salvation Army Band. One of its members, Arthur Delamont, went on to great fame as founder and director of the Kitsilano Boys Band.

Nick Fanner

Nick Fanner – Concert Band clinician

Currently in his thirtieth year of teaching with the Saskatoon Public School Division, Nick leads the Sr. Concert and Sr. Jazz Bands at Centennial Collegiate, while also teaching Grade 6-8 band at Willowgrove elementary school. His passion for teaching instrumental music has seen him present sessions at the 2016 Sask. Music Conference, serve as the conductor of the Sask. Junior Band South in Regina (2014) and the Sask. Junior Band North in Saskatoon (2009). He started Saskatoon’s first high school Drumline over a decade ago.

TaniaMarie Cooper – Concert Band Clinician 2017

TaniaMarie Cooper

TaniaMarie is very excited to return to Saskatchewan as a clinician for the Moose Jaw Band and Choral Festival. TaniaMarie attended her first Moose Jaw festival in 1977 as a saxophonist with the Regina Lions Band organization.

Barbara Dowsett

Barbara Dowsett has taught instrumental music for over 30 years –25 of those in Minnedosa, Manitoba where she directed the band program from grade 6-12.  The band program under her direction was awarded the first annual Don Green award at the Winnipeg Optimist International Band Festival in 2006 for the development of an outstanding band program.  Minnedosa bands were awarded consistently for outstanding performance and received invitations to perform at Rocky Mountain Festival in Banff as well as MusicFest Canada.  Barb continues teaching music via instrumental clinics, honour bands, adjudicating festivals, and supervising pre-service band teachers.

GENE AULINGER

Gene Aulinger – Concert band clinician

Gene and his wife Diane have lived in North Battleford since 1988. Gene currently works with the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band, administers a community string program, and maintains a private studio of students. Until his retirement in 2004 , Gene was the Music Consultant with the Living Sky School Division.
